Ricky Gervais, star of The Office and films such as The Invention Of Lying, has said his one-time podcast partner Karl Pilkington has had his version of Van Halen‘s 80s track ‘Jump‘ banned in the US because it is so poor.

Pilkington recorded the track as part of his new An Idiot Abroad series, which is due to begin this month. During the filming, Pilkington was challenged to perform ‘Jump’ in a Glee-style chorus.

“Van Halen are trying to put a stop on it, because it is that bad,” Gervais said. “But Sky have got a blanket agreement so we can put it out in England. But we can’t put it out in America or on the DVD.”

Karl Pilkington has been associated with Gervais since the pair first met during his time as an XFM DJ, when Pilkington was his producer. After encouraging him to contribute on air, they then, along with co-host Steve Merchant, launched a hugely successful podcast series.

The second series of An Idiot Abroad will begin on Sky One on September 23rd.
