Mick Jagger has said he was not surprised by the recent unrest which broke out in London and spread to various other English cities, as he believes rioting is a feature of British life which has been around for centuries.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper, Jagger revealed he was present in London during the riots, but was not shocked by what he witnessed.

“I was in London for the riots,” he said. “I was kind of surprised that people were shocked it happened. There’s no warning, but it’s a regular feature of English urban life if you think about it. Every ten years you get some riots.”

“Riots like that have been a feature of Britain for 200 years or so and we like to congratulate ourselves that it has gone away. But the reality is that they haven’t have they?”

Mick Jagger’s new supergroup SuperHeavy released their self-titled debut album this week.
