Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has described U2 gig-goers as ‘cardboard cut-outs’ after his band supported the Irish supergroup on a portion of their record breaking 360 world tour.
Quoted in The Sun newspaper, Meighan attacked a perceived lack of passion in those who witnessed Kasabian’s support slots, and insisted the Leicester four-piece will never act as a support band again.
“I didn’t take in anything supporting them – them gigs were horrible,” he said. “Worst ever. U2 fans are cardboard cut-outs. Can you imagine supporting U2? Their fans are probably into one band and one album – ‘Joshua Tree‘. I didn’t learn anything cos that’s just a ******* different level.”
“It was amazing to watch and meet them, but I didn’t learn anything apart from just get out. That’s how it felt to us. We were the support, so it is what it is. I hate supporting bands. We’re not a support band. So that’s never gonna happen again.”
Kasabian are currently on top of the UK Album Chart after their fourth studio effort ‘Velociraptor!‘ entered at #1 yesterday.
I’m a U2 fan, and I like Kasabian. I would have extended them the courtesy of getting into their set if they were there.
But not after this ‘broad spectrum’ insult he’s laid down. Good luck cracking the US as a headliner…
