AFI Announce Decision To Split – Updated

US band AFI have announced their split, almost exactly 20 years since the original members formed the group at a Californian school.

AFI’s frontman Davey Havok broke the news via a post on their official internet forum, which has revealed while other projects will continue, AFI is no more.

“This is the end. Sorry, but AFI is done,” the statement reads. “After more than 15 years of being together, we as a band have decided to disband AFI Me and Jade will still continue the Blaqk Audio project but there will be no more AFI albums or shows. We have matured and have other things in life that we would like to attend to. Please forgive us for the random statement but it was something we were thinking of for a while.”

The band released eight studio albums during their career, beginning with 1995’s ‘Answer That and Stay Fashionable‘. More details are expected to be outlined regarding the split over the coming days.

UPDATE:

The band’s management have moved swiftly to deny the reports, insisting on AFI’s official Facebook page that Davey Havok has been the subject of a hoax.

“AFI did not break up. That’s not Dave,” the statement says. “The band haven’t broken up. Someone is just screwing around. We repeat, AFI is not breaking up!”

Well, that’s that then…
