British rock band Queen are to be honoured at the annual BMI Awards this October.

The band will join past winners such as Don Black, Van Morrison, Donovan, James Brown and Willie Nelson when they are handed the BMI Icons gong at the event which recognises the most performed UK and European songwriters and publishers on US radio and television.

Famed for their massive hit single ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘, Queen became one of the UK’s most successful exports during their career thanks to a series of subsequent commercial-friendly anthems such as ‘We Will Rock You‘, ‘We Are The Champions‘ and ‘Radio Ga Ga‘.

After frontman Freddie Mercury‘s death in 1991, surviving members Brian May and Roger Taylor have continued to tour and sporadically record under the Queen banner, while former bassist John Deacon has retired from the limelight.

The ceremony will take place on October 4th at London’s Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane and will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Del Bryant, BMI Writer/Publisher relations SVP Phil Graham and Writer/Publisher Relations executive director Brandon Bakshi.
