Musicians including members of the Kaiser Chiefs and singer-songwriter Kate Nash are out on the streets of London today to join hundreds more in a clean-up operation following three nights of trouble across the city.

Since violence first flared last Saturday night (August 6th), cars, buildings and businesses in various areas of London have been targeted, leaving some communities devastated.

Today however, groups have gathered in a far more positive and defiant fashion to help restore some sense of normality and, according to Kate Nash on Twitter, the numbers have exceeded those intent on causing trouble over recent nights.

“Heading to Clapham now. Everyone meeting there at 1.00. Got my bin bags, need to find gloves,” she wrote, before later adding: “Just announced, ‘bigger crowd here to help clean up than were out last night rioting’ Yay London! X”

Ricky Wilson has also appealed to volunteers via Twitter, writing: “Camden Chalk Farm. Me and @curlywand (bassist Simon Rix) will be there in a bit with our brooms. Get to one near you today if you’re about.”

According to reports, leading indie labels such as XL Recordings, Domino, Wall Of Sound and B Unique could be hit with major problems after the Sony DADC warehouse in Enfield was subjected to an arson attack in the early hours of this morning (August 9th).

The building is responsible for much of the merchandise of the labels, meaning the likes of Adele, The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys are likely to be affected.
