A drug overdose has been ruled out as a possible cause of Amy Winehouse‘s death after the late singer’s family released a statement today (August 23rd) which confirmed no traces of illegal drugs were found in toxicology results.
Inevitably, after Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London flat late last month, certain sections of the media were quick to jump to conclusions, pointing to well documented troubles with drug addiction as a likely reason for her untimely demise.
However, the family of Amy Winehouse have been able to quash those suggestions today, but did reveal alcohol was found, though it cannot yet be ascertained as to whether that ‘played a role in her death’.
“Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy’s system at the time of her death,” the statement reads. “Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death.”
“The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest in October.”
