Video: Stage Collapses During Cheap Trick Concert

Strong winds caused the stage structure to come down during US rock veterans Cheap Trick’s performance of their hit “I want you to want me”. The band were performing at the Ottawa Bluesfest yesterday (July 17).

The Associated Press reported that at least 5 people were injured, one seriously.

Cheap Trick posted on their Facebook wall after the incident: “Everyone is okay and we are so lucky to be alive and hope that all the fans are okay too.”

“It was as if some invisible hand had pushed the entire structure over,” Ottawa Citizen concert reviewer Chris Cobb was quoted in a news article as saying.”It fell backwards almost intact and very quickly – like a house of cards.”

The festival had went on though there were forecasts of 56mph wind speeds on Sunday.

Cheap Trick have released 16 charting albums in their long career which started in 1973. Their most recent back in 2009, titled appropriately “The Latest”, climbed to #78 on the Billboard’s Top 200 charts.
