U2 paid tribute to the late, great Clarence Clemons last night (July 20th) by working in a short cover Bruce Springsteen‘s ‘Jungleland‘ in memory of the E Street Band‘s saxophonist, reports Rolling Stone.

With the Irish supergroup’s massive 360 world tour bringing them to Springsteen’s hometurf of East Rutherford, New Jersey, the band took the opportunity to give a nod to Clemons by including ‘Jungleland’ in their 2009 song ‘Moment Of Surrender‘ during the two-hour-plus set.

Clarence Clemons passed away last month just a few days after news had broke of him suffering a stroke. Affectionately known simply as ‘Big Man’, and immortalised on the famous cover of ‘Born To Run‘, Bruce Springsteen was quick to describe his sorrow at the time of Clemons’ death, saying:

“He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.”

U2’s 360 world tour has been confirmed as the highest-grossing of all time, but was stripped down to the bones for a more intimate feel when the band visited the Glastonbury festival for a headline appearance in June.
