U2 brought the curtain down on their massive 360 world tour last night (July 30th), having comfortably surpassed all previous records to become the owners of the highest grossing tour of all time.

Back in April, U2 went past The Rolling Stones‘ Bigger Bang figures, and have now raked in $736,137,344, according to Billboard.com. The band’s innovative ‘Claw’ stage design has been credited with playing a part in the record-breaking numbers, thanks to its ability to significantly increase a venue’s capacity.

Launched on June 30th, 2009 in Barcelona, Spain, the tour first landed in the UK a couple of months later with huge outdoor shows in London, Glasgow, Sheffield and Cardiff. On September 12th of that year, U2 hit the US, beginning in Chicago.

Back in June this year, their elaborate stage production – Claw and all – was left behind as U2 finally made their bow at the Glastonbury festival on a rain-drenched Pyramid Stage on the festival’s Friday evening.

Last night’s final show was held at the Magnetic Hill Concert Site, in Moncton, Canada. Over the course of the two years, many acclaimed bands and artists have provided support, including Arcade Fire, Interpol, Jay-Z and Snow Patrol.
