Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has denied he is set for an onstage reunion with Sir Paul McCartney at the 2012 London Olympics, saying he will be out of the country next summer.
“I’ll be touring America so I won’t be doing it,” Ringo told Sky News at last night’s Mojo Awards where he picked up the Icon Award.
Rumours first started of the special reunion when the always reliable Sun newspaper quoted ‘an insider’ claiming a duet between Ringo and Sir Paul was a priority amongst organisers for the special occasion.
“The organisers want the music legend to appear alongside other big British acts,” the source explained. “And they also want Ringo on stage as well to make it extra special.”
On receiving his prize yesterday, when the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, Brian Wilson and Rumer also won gongs, Ringo commented: “It’s an honour being an icon and the magazine actually likes music and musicians and that’s the reason I’m here tonight.”
