Lee Mavers treated a devoted crowd to a selection of La’s classics last night (June 19th), after making a surprise comeback appearance in Manchester.
Rumours began circulating on internet fansites over the weekend that Lee Rude & The Velcro Underpants, billed as the support act for Hyde & Beast at Manchester’s Deaf Institute venue, was in fact set to be Lee Mavers making his first live appearance for over two years, meaning the venue was packed with La’s devotees by the time Mavers took to the stage with former Bandits bassist Gary Murphy.
Mavers didn’t disappoint, airing various classics from The La’s brilliant eponymous debut, including ‘Son Of a Gun‘, ‘Timeless Melody‘ and ‘Looking Glass‘, as well as other firm favourites such as ‘Knock Me Down‘ and ‘Calling All‘.
With La’s dedicated pages being set up on Twitter and Facebook recently, hopes have been raised that Mavers’ return to the live scene could lead to a full scale reunion in the future.
