Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has described their forthcoming new album ‘Velociraptor!‘ as a ‘huge progression’ for the Leicester band, and believes the response to their new material transcends anything previously experience by the group.
Already labelled by guitarist and chief songwriter Serge Pizzorno as ‘the best thing they have done by miles’, anticipation is growing ahead of the album’s expected release in September.
The massive leap forward of ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum‘ reaffirmed the view that Kasabian are a band constantly evolving and, when speaking to Absolute Radio after their recent headline spot at the Isle Of Wight festival, Meighan did little to dampen any hype surrounding their new record.
“The overall response from the gigs and people that have heard it on the radio has been bigger than ever,” he enthused. “Everyone seems to be really digging the new sound. It’s a huge progression for us, it’s epic. It’s a proper rock album, futuristic modern rock album. It’s the future.”
Kasabian recently premiered new single ‘Switchblade Smiles‘ – read our review here.
From what I have heard of the album thus far, I would have to disagree with Tom. Every lead single off of previous Kasabian albums has been amazing, and Switchblade Smiles is not grabbing me in the same way. And I would go so far as to say Velociraptor is one of the worst Kasabian songs I have heard. The lyrics are absolutely laughable IMHO. I really hope there are better tunes to come from this album, because I have grown to expect a lot from this band.
Same here was expecting a lot better than switchblade smiles and velociraptor, sound a bit too chavvy to me and woud have liked the tom and serges voice to be a bit louder
