Ronnie Wood Beats Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker To Sony Radio Award

Ronnie Wood 3365

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has picked up a coveted Sony Radio Award for his weekly show on Absolute Radio.

Wood was named Radio Personality Of The Year at last night’s ceremony, beating fellow musician Jarvis Cocker and established Radio 1 DJs Chris Moyles and Scott Mills to the prize.

In praising Wood for his ‘amazing character’, the judges also remarked:  “Ronnie has lived the life of a thousand men and you feel like a child sitting at his feet as he unfolds his rarefied story book and recounts his great adventures. His use of his guitar and harmonica to introduce the varied music and stories make this a unique and award winning show.”

The Best Music Programme went to Radio 2’s Simon Mayo Drivetime, with Absolute Radio’s Geoff Lloyd’s Hometime Show receiving the Silver runners-up award.

For the fourth time, Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe walked home with the Broadcaster Of The Year gong.
