Johnny Marr To Release New Album With The Healers Next Year

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has announced his intention to release a new album with The Healers next year, after recently confirming his departure from The Cribs in order to concentrate on other projects.

Marr first initiated The Healers back in 2000, and recruited musicians including Zak Starkey and Alonza Bevan for the new band, who went on to release an album in 2003, and is now expected to assemble a new group for 2012.

“I just want to write more than enough material to avoid ducking back into the studio to record a follow-up album,” he told Billboard.com. “I want to take advantage of this point and when I set sail I want to set sail for awhile.”

Later, Marr also explained how working with Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack to Inception has helped to focus his mind on the discipline of songwriting.

“The discipline of finishing a few scenes in a day was useful in writing the record that I am now writing,” he said. “There was not a lot of time for indulgence or experimentation – and I like to deliver when I say I’m going to deliver.”

Johnny Marr’s decision to leave The Cribs was made public last month, when he first outlined his solo plans.
