Identity Of The Modern Weepers Revealed?

modernweepersA mysterious booking at New York’s Mercury Lounge from a new band called The Modern Weepers has had the internet buzzing over recent days, with everything from the launch of Noel Gallagher‘s new solo career to a collaboration between Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr being rumoured to be the source of the previously unknown group.

Mercury Lounge’s website didn’t give much away after announcing the May 27th show, describing The Modern Weepers as ‘a three piece band from Manchester, England…led by Mancunian frontman Gary Dibble and co frontman “Hugh,” they are backed up by the American Chet Skinship on keyboards.’

Now, website thestrut.com has claimed to have identified the real members of the band, creating a possible link to a new Keith Moon biopic.

“Reputable sources confirm it is some sort of comedy supergroup featuring Mike Myers and Fred Armisen,” the site claims. “Details beyond that remain unclear at this point. Who else will be in the band? What will they play? Will they ask any musician friends to join them? Waynes World reunion? It may have something to do with Mike Myers’ upcoming “Untitled Keith Moon Project.”

A connection with the late Who drummer Keith Moon would certainly explain the sixties Mod-inspired logo but, as yet, any concrete details remain unconfirmed.
