Arctic Monkeys guitarist Jamie Cook has said the band followed the lead of their long-time heroes The Strokes when they sat down to draw up their new setlist.
After seeing The Strokes open their show in New York with ‘Is This It?‘, the opening track from their debut album of the same name, the Sheffield band decided to follow suit and begin their own proceedings with ‘The View From The Afternoon‘.
“When I saw The Strokes at Madison Square Garden, they started with the first song on their first album, and it was great,” he told New York magazine. “I thought we should do the same.”
Later, Cook also described how the band keep their fans in mind when cobbling together the order of their live tracks, specifically those who might happen to be on a first date.
“I imagine a fan bringing a date to our show who doesn’t know us that well,” he joked. “We play loads of new stuff, and when we get to ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor‘, he turns to her and says, ‘You’ll definitely know this one.’ If she says, ‘I don’t know this one either,’ that’s when maybe you shouldn’t see much of her again.”
