Carl Barat: Future Libertines Plans ‘Might Not Happen’

Carl Barat has cast further doubt on the continuation of The Libertines‘ reunion which began with a hugely successful appearance at last year’s Reading/Leeds festival, saying any future projects for the group ‘might not happen’.

Hopes of the 2010 gigs turning into a more permanent return for the London band appeared to gather momentum when rumours of a new deal signed by Barat hinted at more Libertines shows this year.

That speculation was quickly put to bed however, and now Barat, speaking at the premiere of the new Libertines documentary film There Are No Innocent Bystanders, has said he has no immediate desire to continue any association with The Libertines, and insisted the situation will have to feel right before any decisions are made.

“Right now, I can work out what I want to do. I don’t feel like I have to force any reunions, and if we did that, which everyone’s always asking, it would just be shit,” he told NME.

“I’d be miserable. Everyone else would be miserable, and it wouldn’t be a particularly great result. If something happens, then it does and it’ll be real. It might be absolutely fucking shocking, or it might be great. Or it might not happen.”

There Are No Innocent Bystanders received its premiere last night (April 27th) at London’s Troxy venue and is expected to be released on DVD later this year.
