The incredible rise of British singer Adele to the forefront of the popular music scene on both sides of the Atlantic continues this week, with her album ‘21‘ remaining on top of the US album chart for a second week, to go with her prolonged stay at the summit of both the Album and Singles chart in her homeland. The placing of Adele, together with Mumford & Sons and Marsha Ambrosius, completed an all-UK top three in the US for the first time since the Eighties.

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has praised Lady Gaga for having ‘balls’ and ‘shocking people’. “She’s great. Seriously, man, we like her,” Gallagher told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s the only one out there who’s got balls. I like her. She can play instruments. She can sing. She can dance. She’s weird. She’s shocking people. I like her. I like the Gaga, man.”
With news of Morrissey‘s June UK tour breaking this week, check him out on this classic Top of the Pops performance with his former Smiths bandmates.

Popstar Britney Spears has been in a modest mood this week, labelling all of her songs as ‘amazing’. “All of my songs are fucking amazing,” she told Out magazine. “It’s such a cool feeling to hear your own song play on the radio. I still have the same kind of excitement when I hear any of my songs today.”

Spiritualized have announced a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on October 11th, as they continue work on a new album which is due for release this autumn. Tickets go on sale from 9am (GMT), Friday 11th March.

Today’s free mp3 come from Thomas Tantrum who have released a Band of Skulls remix of the track ‘Sleep‘, released on March 27th through Stranger Records.

Arctic Monkeys quietly gave fans the first taster of their forthcoming album ‘Suck It and See‘ late last week, which immediately called into mind some of the earliest of the band’s material thanks to the opening vocal contribution of drummer Matt Helders. ‘Brick By Brick‘ appears to retain the harsher, fuller sound chased by the band on previous album ‘Humbug‘, but also tellingly demonstrates their ear for a catchy hook which played such a key role on debut ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not‘, but which has been gradually forgotten as the years have progressed. Here’s hoping that combination of old and new sensibilities is as apparent on the rest of the new record.
