Mick Jagger is working on a new solo project with former Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart, according to Jagger’s brother Chris.

Chris Jagger broke the news during an interview on Portuguese TV, explaining how The Rolling Stones frontman spoke of his plans during a recent phone conversation.

“He’s doing a record at the moment in Los Angeles with Dave Stewart, he called me last night telling me what he was doing,” he said. “So he keeps in touch.”

The news appears to cast further doubt on The Rolling Stones plans for 2011, which seemed to be ready to set in motion towards the end of last year when the band’s guitarist Keith Richards told BBC 6Music of his hopes for a new album and tour this year.

Meanwhie, if the reports are proved to be accurate, the new Jagger solo album will re-ignite a partnership with Dave Stewart which began on Jagger’s 1987 solo album ‘Primitive Cool‘, when Stewart co-wrote and co-produced a collection of the album’s tracks.
