Jack White ‘Had No Control’ Over The White Stripes Before Split

Former White Stripes songwriter Jack White has explained further the reasons for the duo highlighting their belief that the band ‘no longer belonged’ to them when announcing their decision to split last year.

Speaking to the New York Times, White spoke of the pressure that steadily grew around the pair during the period of inactivity which followed their 2007 release ‘Icky Thump‘.

“People say, ‘Why didn’t you do this? Why didn’t you do that?’ Or, ‘Don’t you owe something to somebody, or to yourselves?’ All those questions,” he explained.

“That line was the idea of explaining to them that at a certain point as an artist, you paint your painting, you do your sculpture or your music, and you release it into the world.”

“You don’t own it anymore. You have no control over it. You put it out there to share with other people. You can only hope for the best.”

Since the White Stripes’ split, Jack White has suggested his future may lie with a solo career, after saying he has no intention to form another group to go with current projects The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
