Guy Garvey: Arena Shows Could Shape Elbow’s Future

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has said the band’s recent UK arena tour is likely to shape their future writing as they prepare to wrap up the series of dates with two shows at London’s O2 Arena.

In an interview with BBC 6Music, Garvey appeared to suggest the response gained from fans for their understated, stripped back tracks, very much a feature of new album ‘Build a Rocket Boys!‘, alongside the more traditional anthems such as ‘One Day Like This‘, may persuade the group to adopt a similar approach when they sit down to work on a new album in the future.

“Knowing that we’re being appreciated as much for our subtler songs as we are for our anthems will shape the way we write in the future,” he said.

Like most albums of 2011, Elbow’s ‘Build a Rocket Boys‘ was kept off the top spot by Adele after its release earlier this month, but remains in the UK top ten this week, sitting currently at #9 on the charts.
