Gorillaz are to release their so-called ‘iPad album’ ‘The Fall‘ on the more traditional CD and vinyl formats in April.
The record, which was initially issued as a free download to fanclub members in December, will also be made available as a digital download in time for Record Store Day on April 16th, with the CD following a couple of days later.
The album was recorded using iPad apps such as Speak It!, Mugician and Solo Synth during the band’s recent US tour, with Damon Albarn explaining how the process helped him get through the long slog of a US tour. “I did it because there’s a lot of time that you just spend staring at walls, essentially, and it was a fantastic way of doing it,” he said.
“I found working in the day, whether it’s in the hotel or in the venue, was a brilliant way of keeping myself well.”
The future of Gorillaz remains unclear following the completion of their world tour, with some tabloids claiming tensions within the group may bring an end to the project which was launched by Albarn along with illustrator Jamie Hewlett back in 2001.
