Dave Davies Refuses To Rule Out Kinks Reunion

Amidst speculation that brother Ray could be ready to reform The Kinks without him, Dave Davies has refused to rule out joining his estranged sibling on stage, despite being quoted last year as saying a Kinks reunion is out of the question because ‘you don’t need to see silly old men in wheelchairs singing ‘You Really Got Me”.

Last month, Ray Davies explained how he believed Dave’s own legacy in the group may be the reason behind his reluctance to rejoin the sixties legends, saying: “The fortunate thing for me is that I was never a sexy frontman. Dave was always the pretty kid. So maybe he feels that way about himself. But we’ll do it without him if we have to. The music is the issue.”

However, when speaking to The Independent newspaper, Dave Davies has now suggested any plans are solely at the behest of Ray. “That would be down to Ray,” said Dave on rumours that the brothers could appear at London’s Meltdown Festival this June.

Later, Dave also discussed his famously fractious relationship with Ray, saying: “I don’t know when it happened but at some point Ray kind of lost the ability to share. Emotionally – not just with money.”

“But having said that Ray is a vain, egocentric, narcissistic arsehole, I won’t have anybody call him that except me. Because I love him to death. He is my brother.”

“For all his weirdness and abuse and the weird shit that he has got, I wouldn’t swap Ray for anything more balanced and polite.”

After years of sibling rivalry, The Kinks finally called it a day in 1996.
