Pixies Finally Ready To Record New Album?

A new album could finally be ready to join the Pixies‘ reunion plans after the band’s drummer David Lovering told Billboard.com the members have been discussing the possibility of recording new material.

After disbanding in 1993, the hugely influential rock group reformed in 2004, sparking hopes of a new Pixies album from fans who have been waiting patiently since 1991’s ‘Trompe le Monde‘.

However, the intervening years have instead seen a succession of tours, recently focusing predominantly on their seminal 1989 LP ‘Doolittle‘. Now, despite the lack of studio activity, Lovering has given one of the strongest indications yet that a new album is a part of the band’s plans.

“We’ve been talking about this for about three years now, actually,” he said. “I don’t know if it will come to fruition; I’m waiting and waiting to see what will happen. All I can say is if there is one, it better be good. We’d really have to work at it.”

Later, guitarist Joey Santiago suggested the pressure of living up to expectations may also have played a part in the new material’s delay. “We’re waiting for that, like, ‘A-ha!’ moment,” he said.

“I’m already there. It’s just a matter of timing and everything aligning. I guess there’s a little pressure from the legacy thing. Sure there is. But I don’t think there’s any preconceived thing that anyone could expect us to do. The possibilities are pretty wide open, I’d say.”

The Pixies are due to begin the latest leg of their ‘Doolittle‘ tour on April 9th in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
