Paul McCartney To Compose Music For New York Ballet

Sir Paul McCartney has written the music for the impending autumn production of the New York Ballet, according to reports.

The former Beatle, who has already worked on a variety of musical ventures during his long career, including film soundtracks and classical albums, has said he was drawn to the world of ballet due to the visual spectacle of the shows, and never considered turning down the chance to work on the project when offered.

“I can’t refuse an offer,” he explained. “I’ve come to love working with orchestras. It’s a great palette. “For me, the sheer athleticism is the most astounding thing about what I’m seeing. It’s like a meeting of the Olympic games and art, and I find that fascinating and challenging for me, to see what can be done.”

The New York Times reports the ballet is entitled Ocean’s Kingdom, and will tell the story of ‘lovers torn between two worlds’.

The ballet is due to receive its New York debut on September 22nd.
