A new feature-length documentary which will chronicle the Foo Fighters‘ 16-year career, as well as taking an in-depth look at the recording of their upcoming seventh studio album, is to be released to theatres this Spring.

The film will receive its premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas this March, and will then get its theatrical release soon after. The documentary has been directed by Academy Award winner James Moll, and will begin right from the inception of the Foo Fighters, when Dave Grohl was still in Nirvana.

In a statement recently released to the press, Dave Grohl has given his own synopsis of the film’s, and his band’s, story: “In October of 1994, I walked into Robert Lang’s Seattle studio with a guitar, a drum set, a bass and 14 songs I thought nobody would ever hear,” he said.

“Five days later, I walked out with the first Foo Fighters record. Sixteen years and seven studio albums later, with the help of Academy Award winning director James Moll, we’re finally able to tell the story of how that one demo cassette turned into the band that we are today. This is our side of the story. From the first rehearsal, to the completion of our new album, it’s all there.”

Foo Fighters have confirmed their as-yet-untitled seventh record is due for release on April 12th.
