Sir Paul McCartney will perform for Prince William and his future wife Kate Middleton during their wedding day celebrations, if the ever reliable Daily Star newspaper is to be believed.

The paper claims Sir Paul has been approached to play the couple’s reception at Buckingham Palace after their wedding on April 29th. Quoting a ‘source’, the paper reports the former Beatles legend as Prince William’s ‘number one’ choice to appear at the celebrations. “William and Kate have chosen their wedding list and Paul McCartney is their number one choice to perform,” the source said. “They can’t think of anyone more perfect to kick off proceedings.”

The source goes on to claim Sir Paul has said he is ‘priveleged’ to be invited, but a royal spokesman has also insisted no plans have yet been finalised. “Prince William is following in his mother Princess Diana’s footsteps by inviting a host of famous friends to join him on his wedding day,” the paper writes. “Paul McCartney has been asked to do a few numbers and he said he feels very privileged.”

Paul McCartney’s relationship with the Royal Family began in the Sixties when he was awarded the MBE along with his fellow Beatles members. He was later presented with a knighthood by the Queen in 1997.
