Muse Fear Live Shows Could Cause Blindness

Rock superstars Muse have expressed concerns their ambitious, boundary-pushing live shows could lead to them losing their sight in later years.

Speaking in The Sun, the band’s drummer Dominic Howard described how a new aspect to their onstage performances had the potential to cause health problems. “We got some big white balloons, threw them into the audience and decided to focus the lasers on them,” he said.

“It was like a slow burn that gradually disintegrated them into nothing. We all thought, ‘What the hell will our corneas be like in 20 years?’ We could end up like that amazing vocal group the Blind Boys Of Alabama – getting around doing it really well but not seeing anything.”

Muse are now expected to take a break from music following the completion of their world tour, while frontman Matt Bellamy revealed last year that their live shows could be scaled back when they returned from the planned hiatus.
