Another piece of iconic rock memorabilia has been sold recently as the white suit worn by John Lennon on the sleeve of The Beatles‘ classic 1969 album ‘Abbey Road‘ has been purchased for close to $46,000 (£29,700) at an auction in America.

Despite the hefty price tag, the final offer is in fact significantly less than the $120,000 (£76,740) which was originally estimated on the back of its previous sale in 2005.

Lennon’s outfit was tailored in Paris in 1969 by designer Ted Lapidus, and has become synonymous with the trials and tribulations of the closing chapter in The Beatles’ unrivalled story.

Soon after the famous photoshoot, Lennon passed the suit on to a friend, Richard Ross, who kept the clothing until his death when it was then in turn passed on to Lennon’s first wife Cynthia. An anonymous musician bought the suit in 1996.

The auction was held on New Year’s Day in Norwalk, Connecticut.
