UK acts Florence & The Machine and Mumford & Sons have both been named in the Best New Artist category for the 2011 Grammy Awards.

The two nominations are achieved in what is otherwise a barren year for rock acts, who have been primarily relegated to their own specialist categories. Only Arcade Fire, who’s excellent third studio album ‘The Suburbs‘ is up for the Album Of The Year, joins the two British acts in the major categories.

In the rock categories, Muse will compete with veterans such as Neil Young, Jeff Beck and Tom Petty for the Rock Album Of The Year, while Mumford & Sons also have an interest in the Best Rock Song section, where their track ‘Little Lion Man‘ will go head to head with Neil Young’s ‘Angry World‘, Kings of Leon‘s ‘Radioactive‘, ‘Resistance‘ by Muse and Blues duo The Black Keys‘ ‘Tighten Up‘.

Next year’s Grammy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 13th.
