Biffy Clyro Set To Miss Out On UK’s Christmas Number One

The Facebook group set up in an attempt to push Biffy Clyro‘s original version of ‘Many Of Horror‘ to the top of the UK Singles chart looks set to fall short of it’s target on Sunday according to midweek sales figures released today.

The campaign has done enough to elevate Biffy Clyro to #7 on the UK’s midweek chart, but is a long way behind X Factor winner Matt Cardle who’s cover version of the song looks set to be this year’s Christmas Number One.

Cardle’s success in the chart will continue the long-held dominance of Simon Cowell‘s annual reality TV show over the UK’s traditional Christmas Number One, with previous X Factor winners Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson and Alexandra Burke all landing the no.1 position in recent years. Last year, the X Factor finally missed out when a campaign was successful in getting Rage Against The Machine‘s ‘Killing In The Name‘ to the top spot.

Yet another Facebook initiative, dubbed ‘Cage Against The Machine’ which aims elevate John Cage‘s silent single ‘4:33‘ to the summit, is also falling way short at number 18.

The final chart before Christmas will be announced this coming Sunday (19th Dec).
