Brian ‘Danger Mouse’ Burton, the supremely talented musician and producer behind Broken Bells and Gnarls Barkley, has revealed he is working on a new project entitled Rome, which is set to feature the equally productive White Stripes mainman Jack White.

Speaking about the early days of the project, Danger Mouse revealed how he first came to introduce Jack White to the new venture.

“I played some of the music for Jack White when I was on tour shortly after doing the first session, just to show him what I was doing, because at the time everyone thought I was just a hip-hop guy, or whatever,” he told The Guardian. “He liked it, but at the time I wasn’t even thinking of using him, you know, it’s Jack White. But in the end, I thought, he’s really into it, why not?”

Danger Mouse added that White is often hard to spot on the new tracks, due to double-tracking his vocals during recording sessions. “It doesn’t always sound like him,” he explained. “Sometimes you’re like, is that Jack or not?”

According to Danger Mouse, Rome grew out of a shared love of Sixties Italian soundtracks with film composer Daniele Luppi, and has been recorded in Rome at the Forum, a converted church used by Ennio Morricone amongst others. No release date has yet been announced for the new project.
