The Kinks’ Dave Davies Rules Out Reunion

Former Kinks guitarist Dave Davies looks to have put any lingering hopes of a reunion with his brother Ray to bed, after discussing the ongoing animosity between the brothers which has been well documented for over forty years.

Occasional interviews in recent years had raised hopes of a reunion between the pair amongst fans, after both brothers spoke of a reconciliation following ill health. However, in an interview with the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper, Dave gave a less than encouraging status report on their relationship. “You’ve heard of vampires,” he said. “Well, Ray sucks me dry of ideas, emotions and creativity. It’s toxic for me to be with him. He’s a control freak.”

Later, Dave also revealed details of the last time he claims they were ‘all together’, at his 50th birthday party. “The last time we were all together was at my 50th birthday party. Ray had the money and I didn’t, so he offered to throw it for me. Just as I was about to cut the cake, Ray jumped on the table and made a speech about how wonderful he was. He then stamped on the cake.”

So unsurprisingly, Dave then ruled out a reunion, saying music ‘shouldn’t be tainted’. “I think the music is so beautiful it shouldn’t be tainted,” he said. “It would be a shame. You don’t need to see silly old men in wheelchairs singing ‘You Really Got Me‘.”

Ray Davies will release the album ‘See My Friends‘ next week, which features a host of artists covering classic Kinks tracks.
