February Release For New Boxer Rebellion Album

boxer-rebellionThe Boxer Rebellion have today released details of the follow up to their 2009 second studio album ‘Union‘.

Entitled ‘The Cold Still‘, (we brought it to you first) the new album comes with The Boxer Rebellion in a much improved state in the wake of ‘Union‘s release in the January of 2009. Having been dropped by their record label soon after 2005 debut ‘Exits‘, the band re-emerged with the self-produced record, and were soon making waves when their single ‘Evacuate‘ was picked up by iTunes as it’s Single Of The Week. The subsequent digital release of ‘Union‘ then broke into the Billboard Top 200 while the band were still unsigned.

Now, as last year’s biggest success story, and a beacon of inspiration for all unsigned bands, The Boxer Rebellion were able to pick Ethan Johns, the man they claim was their ‘dream producer’, to work on the new album.

“Ethan had been our dream producer for years, so when we were asked to make a list of people to produce the third album my list consisted of one name,” said guitarist Todd Howe. “We didn’t want anyone else and, luckily for us, he was in from the first demo. We were looking for a more natural and evolved sound and we knew Ethan would get it right.”

Singer Nathan Nicholson also praised Johns, and reflected on the different position the band find themselves in this time round. “Working with Ethan was a magical experience. We essentially produced Union ourselves, so handing over the reigns to someone whose work we respect so much was a really big move for us,” he explained. “Ethan started by setting us up in a circle facing each other – we had never played facing each other, ever. We recorded to tape and it was basically just press play and go. He really brought a new way of working to our creative process and it’s helped us make what we feel is our best record yet.”

The Cold Still‘ is due for release on February 7th.
