Arcade Fire’s Win Butler ‘Doesn’t Envy’ President Obama

arcade-fireArcade Fire frontman Win Butler has said he ‘doesn’t envy’ President Obama at the current time after supporting his campaign in 2008.

As Obama battles pressing issues both domestically and abroad, Butler expressed his sympathy for the current President’s position, but was also full of praise for his efforts in Haiti, an issue which is close to Butler’s heart. “I definitely don’t envy his job right now,” Butler told the UK’s Metro newspaper.

“He’s been able to get a lot of things through that are maybe a little more subtle. The main thing for me is a lot of the people working on Haiti policy are competent, that was definitely not the case under Bush.”

Win Butler’s wife and bandmate Régine Chassagne is a Haitian native, and the band have played a prominent part in raising awareness and funds for the country’s earthquake relief effort, and recently pledged $1m towards the campaign.

Later, Butler discussed Arcade Fire’s future plans after the huge success of their third studio album ‘The Suburbs‘, and appeared to suggest the band may return with new material sooner rather than later. “We’re going to be taking some time and trying to smell the roses,” he explained.

“We’re planning a trip to Haiti this winter. I’m looking forward to that, rather than touring through the whole winter. We’re going to try and actually get creative again.”

Released last August, ‘The Suburbs‘ has proved to be Arcade Fire’s biggest commercial success to date, and hit the top spot on both sides of the Atlantic.
