Ozzy Osbourne Covers John Lennon Track For Amnesty International

ozzy-osbourneOzzy Osbourne has recorded a cover version of John Lennon’s track ‘How?‘ in support of the respected charity Amnesty International, as celebrations continue during the week leading up to what would have been Lennon’s 70th birthday.

The new cover is a continuation of Amnesty’s 2007 album ‘Instant Karma,’ which featured a selection of Lennon covers from artists such as U2, R.E.M, Christina Aguilera and Green Day.

Featured on the 1971 album ‘Imagine‘, ‘How?‘ is one of the standout tracks from the seminal record, and perfectly displays Lennon’s move back into a more classic, softer sound following the harsh atmosphere of his equally brilliant ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band‘ of a year earlier.

Speaking of the new track, Amnesty’s USA Executive Director Larry Cox thanked Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono for allowing his music to support the charity, and also praised Ozzy Osbourne’s efforts. “Once again Yoko Ono has shared the extraordinary legacy of her husband’s music to make a difference in the lives of those who have no voice,” he said.

“We continue to be enormously grateful to her for her support and generosity. Yoko and John Lennon were devoted to seeking a better world and used the power of their artistry to work toward that goal. Ozzy Osbourne’s gift, with Sharon Osbourne’s strong and generous support, makes the same powerful statement today: that individuals can make a difference when they join with others who share a commitment to justice and freedom.”
