Kings Of Leon look set for the fastest selling album in the UK this year, with their fifth studio album ‘Come Around Sundown‘ a certainty to top the Album Chart this weekend, despite the record receiving mixed reviews since it’s release on Monday.

Only US superstar Eminem’s recent album ‘Recovery‘ stands in the way of the four-piece landing 2010’s biggest seller, with last week’s number one, Robbie Williams’ Greatest Hits collection, at #2 in the midweek charts.

Come Around Sundown‘ has been met with some sharp words from sections of the media, with critics citing a further move towards a mainstream friendly sound compromising their previous quality. NME claims the album is ‘music designed to be blasted from drive-time FM radios, and to waft around arenas’, while Drowned In Sound, who rated the new LP at just 3/10, slam the album as ‘musical wallpaper for those who purchase such amenities from the likes of Tesco or Asda. It represents little more than a giant turd amidst a sea of mediocrity.’

Not all reviews have been quite so scathing however, with the BBC claiming the release marks Kings Of Leon ‘graciously accepting their ceremonial mainstream robes’ and Rolling Stone calls the record ‘gigantic sounding’, one which will see the band become America’s U2.

Kings Of Leon are set to embark on a sold out UK arena tour in December, beginning at Manchester’s MEN Arena on the 13th.
