Kings Of Leon Miss Out On US Number One

kings of leon feature shoot for the nme magazineDespite becoming the fastest selling album of the year in Britain to comfortably top the UK’s Album Chart, Kings Of Leon are reported to be set to miss out on the number one position on the US’ Billboard 200.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, the band’s fifth studio album ‘Come Around Sundown‘ has sold more than 184,000 in it’s first week, making it their best debut-week performance in their homeland. However, country-pop duo Sugarland‘s album ‘Incredible Machine‘ is to land the top spot thanks to sales of 203,000.

There will also be new entries in the top ten of the Billboard 200 from the new Elton John/Leon Russell colloaboration ‘Union‘, which has shifted 80,000 copies, Rod Stewart‘s new collection ‘Fly Me To The Moon: The Great American Songbook‘, and the latest soundtrack from hit TV show Glee which has sold close to 50,000 units.

Kings Of Leon have matched their runaway European success in Canada, after managing to beat Sugarland to the country’s top spot. The Tennessee four-piece are also unlikely to rise on the Billboard 200 next week, with Taylor Swift‘s new album ‘Speak Now‘ predicted to easily top the charts, thanks to projected sales close to the 800,000 mark.
