The incredible success-story of Kings Of Leon’s fourth studio album ‘Only By The Night‘ has gained a new chapter today after it was declared as the biggest selling digital album in the UK.

The record, released in 2008, has now been downloaded 276,000 times, putting it ahead of Lady Gaga’s own smash-hit album ‘The Fame‘, which has sold 261,000 digital copies.

Released in the September of 2008, ‘Only By The Night‘ confirmed Kings Of Leon’s move into a more mainstream sound which had begun on their previous record ‘Because Of The Times‘, and propelled by the radio-friendly singles ‘Sex On Fire‘ and ‘Use Somebody‘, pushed the band towards rock super stardom. They will release the eagerly awaited follow up, ‘Come Around Sundown‘, on the 18th of this month.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, has predicted the increasing trend of online sales is only going to grow in future years. “With Kings Of Leon leading the way in the all-time list – ‘Only By The Night‘ becoming the first album to sell more than quarter of a million copies – it won’t be long before we see the first half-million-selling digital album,” he said.

Folk rockers Mumford & Sons’ debut album ‘Sigh No More‘ is the biggest selling digital album of 2010.
