Fast-rising indie band The Drums have announced the departure of their guitarist Adam Kessler today, midway through the group’s US tour.

In a statement on their official website, the band spoke of their ‘devastation’ at Kessler’s decision, thanked fans for their continued support. “There have been some questions as to recent events and we are sorry to say that Adam has left the Drums,” they wrote. “Jonny, Jacob and Connor are devastated and are keeping to themselves and with friends at this time. The band are currently on the road in America. Thank you for all of the support, it means a lot.”

Since the announcement, The Drums frontman Jonathan Pierce has told NME that the band have already drafted in Tom Haslow as an initial short-term replacement, who is a long standing friend of the band. “He’s a kid from New York who I’ve known for a few years,” Pierce explained.

Brooklyn-based The Drums have become one of the hottest new bands of 2010, and started the year by being named on the BBC’s influential ‘Sound Of’ list. Since then, their self-titled debut album was released in June to widespread critical acclaim and landed in the top 20 on the UK’s Album chart.

They will now continue their tour in Florida this evening.
