Former Beatles veteran Sir Paul McCartney is set to appear on the new Glee soundtrack after the legendary songwriter wrote to the hit TV show personally to ask to be included.

The creator of the high school musical, Ryan Murphy revealed he received a personal handwritten note from McCartney asking if his music could be included. “I received some fantastic mixed tapes from Paul McCartney a couple of weeks ago,” he told BBC News. “It came out of blue in a package, handwritten, and it had two CDs and it said ‘Hi Ryan, I hope you will consider some of these songs for Glee’. I had heard that he is a fan of the show. I was gobsmacked so of course we are going to do something with him.”

The Glee show was launched in the US in May 2009 and became an instant hit, while three soundtracks from the programme have all hit the top ten in the UK Album chart.

British X Factor winner Susan Boyle, who became a world-wide star after her performance of ‘I Dreamed a Dream‘ was featured on YouTube, is also reported to be due to appear on the Christmas special.
