San Diego Indie Rockers ‘The Secret Seven’ Release Debut Album

San Diego-based The Secret Seven’s debut album has been released recently and, despite being their first, is in fact the culmination of a long, eventful journey for their leader Zachary Goode.

Immersed in show-business from a young age, Goode cut his teeth at the acclaimed Saint Ann’s Performing Arts School in Brooklyn where he counted the likes of The Beastie Boys and Jennifer Connelly among his luminaries, while also receiving classical training at Stagedoor Manor and Appel Farm Arts and Music Center in New York, during which time he worked on an Off-Broadway production of ‘Runaways‘.

The lure of the rock n roll life took him off stage by the age of sixteen, and with guitar in hand, he left home to forge his way into a new world. Eventually, he settled in San Diego, where he fronted the bands Ghoulspoon and Divided By Zero, who would go on to support acts such as Foo Fighters and Deftones during their time.

Later, after writing his own acoustic-tinged tracks inspired by classic acts comprising The Beatles, Paul Simon and ELO to name a few, Goode was soon on the lookout for his own group of musicians to expand his writing, and in 2008 The Secret Seven’s line-up was settled when fellow San Diego musicians James ‘Spooky’ Albers, Troy Rippengale, and drummer Twon Ridenhour, all formerly of the band Vocoder, were brought on board.

The new band honed their sound in various south Californian venues including The Casbah, Bar Pink, and House of Blues, before emerging with their nine-track debut ‘Turn Your Back To The Sea‘, which points to more modern influences such as The Flaming Lips sitting comfortably with the band alongside their more classic British sound.

We recommend you check out those sweet but raspy vocals reminiscent of Steve Perry (Journey) on Weeping Willow, only one of the jewels on this solid first release!
