New Site Zaptunes Offering Beatles Downloads

The Beatles - Back in their heyday

A new music download site is offering previously unavailable Beatles tracks for download for a subscription of £16 a month.

Agreements have still failed to be reached between the owners of the rights to The Beatles music and any of the current major download facilities, meaning that the Fab Four’s back catalogue has remained strictly off-limits on the internet.

However, a spokesman for new service Zaptunes has claimed they have ‘negotiated with the top label companies’ before offering tracks, but Digital Music News is predicting a swift response from lawyers in reaction to the move. “EMI Group is already drafting the legal paperwork against this shenanigan,” a source said.

Despite the impending backlash, Zaptunes has claimed on Hypebot to have been granted access to Beatles music due to an agreement with Sony. “We have a contract with Sony Music, who hold the rights to most of the Beatles music,” a spokesman claimed. “I am sorry, but right now I can not give you more details about this contract.”

The news comes not long after Yoko Ono revealed a deal to make The Beatles’ music widely available for download was a ‘long way off’ after talks with iTunes broke down. Now, it seems moves are already being made to end this short-term window of opportunity.
