MGMT Still Want Paul McCartney Collaboration

1270668465-mgmtBrooklyn duo MGMT have said they are still interested in working with Sir Paul McCartney, after the former Beatles legend told of his own desire to work the group last year.

Andrew Wells VanWyngarden told Spinner they had hoped to set the wheels in motion after performing with Macca in New York, but are still yet to arrange any studio time with him. “It’s been tough. We did play a show with him last summer at NY Park, which was really cool,” he said. “But nothing has really come of the collaboration part of it. We still would really like to do that. We like Paul McCartney’s songwriting abilities and musical sensibilities. His bass playing is unreal – he is definitely our favourite bass player.”

Paul McCartney first mooted the possible link up while speaking to Zoe Griffin last year, when he explained he would like to use the opportunity to work on a different sounding track to his traditional material. “I like MGMT. I’d like to work on some more dancey stuff with MGMT,” he revealed. “But it has to happen organically. We need to talk about it. I can’t call them. If they called me, I’d say, ‘How did you get my number?’. But I’d do it.”

MGMT released their second studio album, ‘Congratulations‘, in the April of this year.
