Rumours are rife today of the identities of the 2011 Glastonbury festival headliners after organiser Michael Eavis confirmed the Sunday night bill will be topped by a major American act.

Pop superstar Madonna could be one of the headliners booked for next year’s festival according to the latest whispers, with respected website efestivals.co.uk naming her as a possibility to top the Pyramid Stage alongside other rumoured headliners including Coldplay, Kylie Minogue and Radiohead.

Eavis had previously confirmed he has two of the 2011 headliners already booked, and in an interview with Heart Radio, he slightly elaborated on the progress being made for next year, without revealing the names of the acts. “We’ve got two out of three headliners already sorted,” he said. “There’s American artists that I’ve been wanting to have for years and yonks and yonks and yonks – so it’s confirmed. I can’t tell you who it is. I really cannot tell you who it is! It’s so good though, I’m so thrilled about it. Sunday night headliner for next year. No, don’t start guessing.”

U2
also remain a strong bet for the festival after Michael Eavis announced he had offered the band the chance to return to the event following their cancellation last June due to Bono’s back injury.
