Coldplay ‘Sign Huge New Record Deal With Universal’

coldplayAs they put the finishing touches to their upcoming fifth studio album, British band Coldplay have reportedly signed a new deal with one of the giants of the recording industry for what is said to be one of the biggest in history.

According to The Sun newspaper, a deal has already been struck between the band and label, but the exact details have not been disclosed as of yet, and they quote Paul Connolly, president of Universal, as saying: “They’ve sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and their huge success is entirely deserved. We’re obviously very proud.”

Following the release of their debut album ‘Parachutes‘ in 2000, Coldplay began the road to being one of the biggest bands in the world with the release of their second album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head‘ in 2002. They have since confirmed their status as one of the highest grossing acts on the planet with a series of big-selling albums and world tours.

The UK’s leading tabloid paper also reports of the band’s finances being hit by their frontman Chris Martin’s habit of losing up to £1,000 in table-tennis challenges. “Chris challenged a roadie to a big table-tennis game and lost out,” a ‘source’ told the paper. “But he went straight to the kitty and handed over the wedge. He’s very generous like that.”

Coldplay’s new album could be due for release by the end of the year.
