Aerosmith Unhappy With Steven Tyler’s American Idol Plans

Not long after US rockers Aerosmith had appeared to patch things up with their enigmatic frontman Steven Tyer, it appears the good ship is back on stormy seas after Tyler apparently decided to publicly air his intention to join the judging panel for the upcoming American Idol season without telling his bandmates first.

The UK’s Guardian newspaper reports Tyler telling journalists of the possibilty of him being chosen as one of the replacements for the outgoing Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres, with other names including Jennifer Lopez said to be under consideration. “I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it,” he apparently told reporters. “Probably going to be a judge on American Idol.”

However, it would appear bandmate Joe Perry is furious with Tyler’s comments, which were allegedly made during an after-show party, and his decision could reopen the arguments which have dogged Aerosmith recently. “There was a party at Studio 54 after the Vegas show, which none of us in the band knew anything about, and Steven said some stuff there,” he told the Boston Herald. “After working with me for 40 years, he couldn’t tell me about this? Why so secretive? We’re told it’s a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us.”

The new series of American Idol is set to air in the US next January.
