Slash and Muse Among Award Winners at Silver Clef Awards

U.K. rock trio Muse were at hand to collect the coveted Silver Clef Award at the star studded ceremony held in London today (July 2).

Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen who are big Muse fans presented the award to the band and while Taylor proclaimed “[Muse is] probably the greatest live act in the world today,” while May said that “this is a magnificent, incredible group.” Matt Bellamy who collected the award responded saying it was “amazing privilege and honor” to win, and told the rock legends “we owe you so much.”

Muse also showed their big hearts , successfully bidding tens of thousands during the auction in aid of the Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity.

The 35th anniversary of the Silver Clef Awards also handed out awards to veteran artists Tony Bennet and Dame Vera Lynn. Bennet collected a lifetime achievement award and told the audience: “It’s not what you get, it’s what you give that makes your life a treasure”. He plays the iTunes Festival at London Roundhouse tonight (July 2).

Former Guns and Roses guitar slinger Slash was presented the Hard Rock ‘Ambassador of Rock Award’ by another rock n roll great ‘Ronnie Wood‘. Slash said: “I’m a big believer in the power that music has to heal, so this is really important.”

UK star Dizzee Rascal was honored with an American Express digital innovation award, but sent a video message to the night’s MC Sharon Osbourne who responded: “I thought my old man [Ozzy Osbourne] was hard to understand, I couldn’t understand one bloody word.”
