Tired of the overpopulated, homogeneous singer-songwriter market that’s awash with mediocrity? Then please welcome Adam Parker, a man who offers something refreshingly new and inspired with his debut single, ‘Oh My’.

The track is by no means a typical indie, acoustic, singer-songwriter-by- numbers-effort. On the contrary, it transcends genres and boasts a very modern feel. ‘Oh My’ opens with an electronic loop that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Lady Gaga record, then progresses with an acoustic driven sound that brings us to an understated chorus which would fit the glove perfectly on an Elbow album.

There is a slight, haunting quality to ‘Oh My’, emphasised with piano which makes this tale of a lustful encounter sound rather dark and moody at times, aided by Parker’s breathy, rich, soothing vocals which suit the tone of the song down to a tee. The female backing vocals which feature compliment him well, mirroring the qualities of his own vocal style.

‘Oh My’ is a very subtle affair, and never really gets off the ground, rather creeping along gently and not overstating itself, a statement of intent that Parker may have set out to achieve. The song comes full circle as it wraps up with the electronic loop that it begun with, which although was initially rather unexpected, proved to play a pivotal role in shaping the song’s signature sound.

This is perhaps not a track that will get a lot of airplay, rather one you’ll have to dig out yourself in that underworld of music that doesn’t get the commercial spotlight. The album, ‘Call Me A Medic’, recorded with grammy nominated producer Dyre Gormsen, follows later this year and should live up to the hype that’s already caused a huge buzz on his Myspace page, boasting 3 million hits.
